Born in Zanzibar in the 1940s, Fizza Abdulrasul grew up surrounded by nature, deep forests, and the crystal-clear African Sea all undoubtedly contributing to her inspiration as a painter. The Art By Fizza webpage is a place where nature meets art in a complex, dynamic relationship that is continually growing and changing.

Fizza Abdulrasul's vibrant personality and her introspective imagination combined with a relentless passion for nature, and sometimes a disquieting nihilism, attributable also to her traumatic experiences, is reflected throughout her work, which often represents the sheer and raw power of the natural world.

Fizza Abdulrasul has been painting for more than 40 years using mixed mediums on canvas. Her trademark is the use of vivacious and lively colours forming full of life images, overlaid with subtle shading in complementary and often contrasting tones.

Fizza Abdulrasul has travelled the world widely absorbing colourful impressions of different cultures, and sceneries. Wherever she has been, she has sketched and taken photos. She is best known for her intensive, yet dreamlike, interpretation of the world's beauty by expressing both the calm and harsh nature: mountains, ice, water, animals and their contrast - complete stillness.

Her latest themes include the slaughtering of sharks and dolphins, in the deep sea and shallow waters of China and Japan, for the mere pleasure of inflicting suffering and death to helpless animals, which to her symbolize the never-ending cruelness of mankind to nature. The brutality and gruesomeness of these acts are powerfully depicted in Fizza Abdulrasul’s paintings as a deprecation and protest against the maltreatment of these beautiful creatures.

Flowers and still life are yet another theme very close to the heart of Fizza Abdulrasul, for to her, these, epitomize timeless elegance and exalt gracefulness, by characteristically bursting out colour, life, and portraying the spirit of love in its entire splendour.

Her work, indeed, shows her zest for life, generosity of spirit, and true love. While Fizza Abdulrasul currently resides in The United Kingdom her artwork can be found gracing the walls of many private collections within East Africa, The Emirates, The Sultanate of Oman, Europe and Asia.
